GMES :
projects kick off

-

Spot Image is contributing actively to the European GMES programme (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security).

Spot Image teams are working on several GMES projects that kicked off recently:

-
  • GMCP (GMES Missions Capacity Planning)
The GMCP project aims to evaluate, qualify and simulate contributions of existing and future satellite missions to GMES services.
Spot Image is canvassing GMES service needs and translating them into acquisition requests, as well as providing support and analysis of simulation results.

  • BOSS4GMES (Building Operational Sustainable Services for GMES)
BOSS4GMES, co-funded by the European Commission, kicked off in December 2006. For the first time, this project will focus on developing sustainable GMES services and preparing the transition from R&D to operations. The 37-member BOSS4GMES consortium will give the EU Council and agencies, member states, regional and local authorities and public and private users tools and processes to support decision-making on environment and security issues. Spot Image’s main contribution to the project will be to analyse existing and future Earth observation (EO) data sources, as well as their acquisition and effective delivery to fulfil the needs of rapid-response emergency pilot services. Spot Image will put forward a plan to implement these services and identify the main operational centres.

  • TANGO (Telecommunications Advanced Networks for GMES Operations)
TANGO is a project of the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), focusing on the role and benefits of telecommunications for GMES services. EADS Astrium is leading the project. Spot Image is contributing chiefly as a system stakeholder to identify service needs (environment, , emergency response, risk and crisis management and humanitarian aid).

  • LIMES (Land and Sea Monitoring for European Security)
LIMES aims to define and develop a prototype of an information system for managing security across Europe for humanitarian relief and reconstruction missions, maritime surveillance, border control and the safety of people. Spot Image is managing development of innovative EO solutions for security applications and consolidation of user requirements and technical specifications.
