Event
Since 29 May 2006, a mud volcano has been spewing out a hot, viscous and foul-smelling slurry in the district of Sidoarjo, on the eastern side of the island of Java, Indonesia. |
|
Need
The Lusi mud volcano must be monitored to understand the underlying natural phenomena taking place and to gauge the effectiveness of the dams and drainage channels built by the Indonesian authorities. |
|
Solution
Every month, Spot Image is tasking the FORMOSAT-2 satellite to acquire imagery and track the mud volcano eruption. Changes are highlighted by comparing before-and-after images. These changes are then recorded and released. |
