Unosat
Satellite imagery for humanitarian purposes

Unosat is a United Nations project including the following participants:
- from the international public sector: Unitar, Unops, Esa, Cnes
- from the private sector: Spot Image, Digitech Intl, Gamma Remote Sensing
- from the scientific community: Cern
Its aim is to provide practical assistance to local authorities, project managers and personnel in the field to help them deal with emergency situations such as natural disasters, disaster management and mitigation, peace keeping missions, restoring the environment, reconstruction following conflicts and sustainable economic and social development.

Unosat provides satellite images and digital satellite image maps, such as land-use maps, change maps, slope maps, aspect maps among others These products come with corresponding dedicated services, on-line courses, assistance for producing customized maps and the setting-up of projects based on satellite imagery.
Some examples of joint Unops – Spot Image projects are:
- Colombia: monitoring illegal crops
- Lebanon: Integrated planning of rural development
- Central America: Recovery after hurricane Mitch
