Dubai’s magical coastline
 |
Begun in October 2002, Palm Jebel Ali consists like its twin Palm Jumeirah of a trunk and 17 fronds encircled by a breakwater. However, Palm Jebel Ali is half as big again, as a water theme park, six marinas and unique water homes will be built between the crescent island breakwater and the fronds. In this picture, dredging and fill work on the fronds is still in progress. The programme is scheduled for completion in 2007.
On the strength of the success of the first two Palm Islands, the Dubai authorities have decided to start another project to the north of the city. Called Palm Deira, this third island will be the largest by far, with 41 fronds stretching over 80 kilometres.
